As we’re nearing the end of summer, I hope you’ve had a chance to hit the pause button and take some time for yourself. Far too often, as leaders, we can get caught up in the day-to-day operations of running a business or become too focused on accomplishing the task at hand that we forget to look at the big picture. Every year I remind my staff about the importance of taking a vacation, so that they can come back to the office rested and excited about work.
Sometimes we think the more we work, the more productive we are. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. After a while we get burned out, which impacts our effectiveness as leaders. We can begin blindly following “business as usual” without pausing to consider new perspectives or reevaluating our current practices. Sometimes working longer without resting can be counterproductive and lead to mistakes or hastily made decisions. Taking a break gives you time to rest and reflect so that you can come back refreshed and energized, full of new ideas and passionate about growing your company.
