Hello and Happy New Year! Welcome to the first post in 2019. I always love the new year because it’s a great time to take a step back, reflect and refocus. Far too often business leaders get caught up in the day-to-day of running a company, putting out fires, or jumping to the next big idea. While momentum often propels growth, balancing this powerful driver with thoughtful introspection is critical. Here are two ways to reflect in the new year:
1. Explore
As a lifelong learner, I always enjoy learning whether it’s from a book, a course either online or in person, or simply through interacting with others. Most recently in our office our team participated in the Everything DiSC Agile EQ Beta to learn more about ourselves, our workstyles and how to best develop our emotional intelligence to work effectively as a team and with our clients. Exploration changes the way we think and yields new ideas, which spur growth. Intentionally seek out these opportunities this year.
2. Find Your Why
Pause to think about why you are doing what you are doing. While having a firm grasp on your business strategy may seem basic, strategic focus can be lost over time if you don’t take the time to reassess. Sometimes without realizing it we can be propelled down a path and if we don’t take the time to look up at our surroundings we may end up in a completely unrecognizable area. This year make sure you have a firm grasp the vision for your company and the underlying strategic rationale.
Before your year gets too busy, I hope you take some time to pause and reflect on all the opportunities that are before you. Here’s to an exciting year!
